After days of intense traveling, last night we arrived in Amsterdam at about 23:30h. |
Yesterday afternoon, David, Diane and I drove back to Hannover from Berlin and picked up Callum and Nick. We all had all our suitcases, laptop cases, purses, a robot, and a giant box of tools, and all of us had to pack the car like a circus style Tetris. It was funny for the first 20 minutes or so, but along the 4-5 hour drive to Amsterdam, we all started wiggling and getting grouchy.
Arriving at the hotel we booked on PriceLine, the guy did not have his shit together, and had no reservation for us. He finally figured to look at the fax machine, and he found a giant stack of paper, with our reservations somewhere toward the middle. The hotel is one of those quaint, austere places, with no lift and you have to share the bathroom. It was cute until I had to carry our heavy suitcases up 4 flights of stairs.
I was out of breath and overheaded. I had to open the window and strip down and lay on the bed for about 30 minutes to cool down.
When I recovered, we all met downstairs and went to buy some pot. I was queezy, so I wanted to eat something mild. Like the clueless tourist we are, we hopped in the car to find a parking spot for it, and we got totally lost, drove the wrong way down the streets, found one way, one car streets that dead ended in a construction zone. These crazy people have parallel parking along a cliff overhanging the canal! They actually trust you no to fall in!!
We didn't find an open restaurant, and I felt like I was going to have a stroke, so I went back to the hotel room, took a klonopin, and went to bed. But not before the nice people brought me a cheese pizza.
This morning, we are getting ready to go out and visit the magic mushroom place, take a boat trip to the museum, and fuck around all day.
Later, I will tell the story about staying with the Ambassador of NZ to Deutchland and visiting the sites around Berlin.
