Anyone else obsessed with Stevie Nicks? I've had this Fleetwood Mac thing going on since high-school. I get obsessed, and that is the only thing on my turn table for weeks.
Stevie haunts me. Her voice haunts me. Her aire haunts me. She makes me feel a sense of meaning and of suffering (I can't explain it, it's a trance thing).
The music is an interface into these strange people, who I am endlessly curious about.

I love, love, love this song "Silver Springs", but never heard it before the live album The Dance from 1997. I was listening to it today, and I got to thinking what's up with this haunting, beautiful song?
Well, it was from the Rumours songs, but at the last minute they told her it wasn't going on the album. It ended up as a B side, all but lost and forgotten.

It reappeared later, I guess it was their reunion concert stuff. And the last night of the show, when they performed this song, it was a like a moment in time when her and Lindsey Buckingham were in love again. Working it out, getting closure.

She was only married once, to her best friends widower, and it lasted 3 months.
I believe she has carried a torch for Buckingham her whole life. She never had her own children.

She spends a great deal of her time doing charity work.

I used to have a huge crush on Stevie.. I had an original pressing of the Buckingham/Nicks album..

Silver Springs used to only be available as a B-side (which of course I had)

I love "Silver Spring", too--I first heard it when I watched the PBS broadcast of The Dance. I didn't know the history behind it or anything, but onstage she and Buckingham had a moment, a frisson that made the hairs on my neck stand up. A blind man could see what was going on with her singing that song to him.

I just watched it, too, getting ready to post it to my comment! When she starts looking at him around minute 4:30, oh man....

Very interesting! There must be something in that non-verbal, visceral interaction that is commonly interpreted by our species. I too had a physical reaction - like a shiver / goosebumps - around 4:30 into the video when she's singing directly to him.

Dart turned me onto some rare Stevie a while back. I wonder if that CD is still around...

We've talked about her before; the fairy godmother.

I feel that way about "Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You." When she sings it live, at the end she intones:

"And sometimes...when they ask her about the men in her life... she says, 'well, they are poets...and yet they are priests of nothing... aah, but they are legends.'"

It just breaks my heart.

It is heartbreaking.
Her life has been really remarkable. She knew what she was from an early age.
Thanks for pointing out this tune. :)

memories

my mom turned me on to Fleetwood Mac and Stevie in Jr High. Bought me "Rumours" on tape for my walkman. when we would party together we would blast it in the truck. Rumours is a great driving album.

i wonder what their story is. her and him.

She had a house on Maui, in Lahaina, when I moved there in '92. She was known to be kind of reclusive. The house was beachfront, and I was charmed by her beach furniture, which was a beautiful upholstered couch. We used to sit on it and smoke sometimes. Every once in a while, she and her maidens (this was a lady who could not go out alone, in the day) would dress up and come to the Blue Max (popular) club in Lahaina, but those days were almost over by the time I lived there.

Christine McVie also had a place there, but it was a small condo apartment. She had a spinet piano, which I know because my first lover on the island was staying there. I would say she had modest taste.
